cookie recipe

At Etsy Cottage Style we are posting our favorite cookie recipes . That is our cookie exchange. Mine is Thumbprint cookies. Labor intensive but well worth the effort.

Thumbprint cookies

1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup butter or margarine softened
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg seperated
1 cup all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup finely chopped nuts
Jelly I like strawberry. Hubby likes grape

Heat oven to 350
Mix sugar, shortening, butter, vanilla and egg yolk in medium bowl. Add flour and salt until dough holds together.
Shape dough into 1 inch balls. (don't squeeze hard or cookies will be tough)Beat egg white slightly. Dip each ball into egg white. Roll in nuts. Place 1 inch apart on cookie sheet. Press thumb deeply into center of each.
Bake 10 minutes or until light brown . Immediately move from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. About 30 minutes. Fill thumbprints with jelly.

These are sooo yummy.
